2020 Dates and Themes:
Week of July 7th: Once Upon a Time
Once upon a time there was a great adventure at Joshua Early Childhood Center. During this week of camp, our teachers will take students on a quest to discover more about fairy tales, the connections we can make with them, and what we have to learn from them. Guest readers will visit JECC with tales new and old, and adventures with storybooks will abound. From beginning book handling skills to early reading comprehension, we’ll be targeting both academics and fun this week!
Week of July13th: Super Ooey Gooey Science Lab
Calling all budding scientists, engineers, and technology gurus: JECC has the week for you! With guest appearances from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to in-house exploration, JECC is taking STEM to the next level. We will be using our investigative skills to build early math, science, communication, and problem solving skills.
Week of July 20th: Eco-Kids: Farming and Gardening
Where does food come from and how can we take care of our Earth? These are only a few of the topics we’ll delve into this summer during our Eco-Kids week. We’ll have experts in from the Denver Botanic Gardens to give us a hands on experience with dirt and planting, along with visitors who will teach us about composting and the how and why of this age-old process. Our goal will be to improve our own practices at JECC! We’re so excited to have some local farm animals visit us this week from Little Angels Pony and Pals. Campers will get to interact with a miniature donkey, pony, pigs and a goat.
Week of July 30th: Building Community in Colorado
Who helps our community thrive? Who picks up our trash? We’ll explore what it means to be a part of a community and how we can contribute to our own community during this week. The local Centennial fire department will stop by as well as a pilot, a nurse, and a baker from our local bakery shop, Wave The Grain ! Preschoolers will get the chance to take a better look at our own Colorado community and work together to better understand the world we live in.
Week of August 3rd: Adventure in Athletics
Colorado is the home of adventure sports, and we’re ready to explore a few right at JECC. The Poms team from Chatfield High School will teach our preschoolers a routine that focuses on cooperation and working together on a team. An in-house certified yoga teacher will teach an adventure based yoga group. And, we’ll explore movement through music, nature, and play to build both fine and gross motor skills.
